Elements of making a game

Posted 08-18-2010 at 12:36 PM by SoL (Thoughts of a Tinkerer)

My work professionally in the game industry has infected the way I view my favorite past time. I tend to look at a new game and see the cracks and flaws. In order for me to enjoy a game I must try to see past the glaring mistakes. Fortunately time has made this sickness fade.

As I find myself doing on a regular basis I found myself jumping into conversations with friends about new and old games. What they liked about new games, and what they hated about old and vice versa. The most...

South Park was right, as usual.

So I started a facebook page yesterday. Not to use facebook for the usual mindlessness, it was for my LARP group so I could join our country's private forum/page there and we could plan things and talk outside of the game since we live scattered over a large area and don't see each other outside of Darkon.

After less than 24 hours, I deleted my page. Facebook is a #@&*ing circus. I added a few people from the site's suggested friends (how it knew who my Tae Kwon Do instructor...

LARP weekend is upon us... well me anyway

Posted 06-04-2010 at 12:14 PM by phantasm74 (Random junk that spills out of my head.)

Darkon, my LARPing game that I do every few weekends, is having the third campout of the season starting tonight at 8. I missed #1, made it to #2 and it was a lot of fun (even though everyone said it was less fun than usual, so I can't wait to see a good one). I'm still pretty new and this will be my second ever campout with them so it's still new and exciting to me. I get to actually fulfill my role as cleric instead of just being a guy with armor and a shield in a 2 minute battle over and over...

6. Collision

Posted 04-09-2010 at 12:49 PM by Talleyrand (Journal de campagne)

I'm stumped

Posted 04-08-2010 at 02:47 PM by phantasm74 (Random junk that spills out of my head.)

My D&D campaign hasn't even started and I'm already stumped.

The fact that no one can just commit to showing up and playing at all is irritating. There are two of us out of 5 or 6 that actually will be there, the rest may or may not (and often don't) show up. The last two attempts at gaming ended up with outdoor cookouts over a campfire instead with some beerpong. Not bad, but not what I was there for.

That being said, I'm not sure what to do with the characters....
