Just in case you're wondering, here's the truth (more or less) as established at the end of the game. The parts underlined are new crimes to be solved within the game that got declared. The game format we played had to have three crimes, with the first being the death of Christina Torrez. Within brackets and in italic, I'll point out when exactly the mechanics declared the perpetrator of a crime.
================================================== ==========
Through Chatty Lucy - the mortician, Leon discovers that Christina Torrez was married to rock singer Éric Lapointe, who he find getting all snuggly at the Bleu & Noir with a woman looking exactly like Christina Torrez, who turns out to be her twin sister Carolina. Carolina talks to Leon over the protest of Eric Lapointe, but doesn't have much to say. Éric Lapointe's bodyguard, a man named Jake Richmond, shows up and tries to beat the crap out of Leon as he gets into his card, but doesn't succeed.
A second visit to the morgue to confirm the whole twin sister story reveals that Christina wasn't dead after all - the dead corpse was that of Carolina Torrez.
After getting her teeth smashed in by Leon, Sarah McDougal confesses to him that she framed him
because she was blackmailed into it, by people who didn't want him to bust a drug transaction. The leverage used was the fact that Sarah skimmed off the top of three seized bricks of coke.
Research reveals that Christina, Carolina, Sarah and Jake all knew each other, with Jake being Sarah's brother.
An undercover cop nicknamed Nasty Tim, whom Leon had recently confronted, tips off Leon on the fact that
Éric Lapointe had just been found murdered. A quick visit to the morgue reveals that Christina was found in shock, naked, next to him. Leon visits Christina at the hospital, gets her to admit her true identity (i.e.: not Carolina), but doesn't get her to either confess to the murder or reveal the identity of the killer (whom she says she did not see.)
[At this point, the mechanics reveal that Sarah McDugal commited one of the crimes. The person in charge of the narrative - Luc, if memory serves - decides that she killed Éric Lapointe.]
Leon recievs a phone call from Sarah McDugal, who asks him to meet her. After acquiring a gun through his contacts, Leon indeed shows up at the meeting, where Sarah confesses to killing Eric Lapointe, who she says was the one who blackmailed her into framing him. After revealing that bit of info, she asks him to throw down his gun and walk away, but Leon refuses to drop his gun. A short firefight ensues, in which Sarah gets shot in the heart. With her last breath, she whispers a name: Chatty Lucy.
[At this point, the mechanics reveal that Carolina Torrez committed one of the crimes. The person in charge of the narrative - myself - decides that she committed the murder of Carolina Torrez.]
Irked that she would know that name, Leon goes to confront Chatty Lucy, who promptly confesses to disguising Carolina's suicide into a murder in exchange for money. She killed herself because of her involvement in a bizarre love affair with both rock singer Eric Lapointe. Christina and Éric Lapointe paid morgue attendant Chatty Lucy to disguise Carolina's suicide into a murder in order to keep the press away from their personal affairs.
Just as Leon is about to leave the morgue, Jake enters it through the back door while saying "Hi honey, I'm back!" Leon turns around, asking what the hell he's doing there, but Jake just tries to cave his face in. A fistfight ensues, and Leon falls unconscious on the ground.
He wakes up tied in his apartment, and gets ready to leave when Christina Torrez shows up, telling him to stop getting involved in her family. After Leon points out that both her husband and sister is dead, Christina reveals to him that Jake is her lover, and that he was Carolina's lover as well.
After Christina leaves, Leon calls his contacts and discovers that Lucy was suspected on drug charges, along with Jake Richmond. He heads down to the police department to verify his info, but a guy called Big Jim shows up and tries to the crap out of him. Leon still manages to get his info.
[At this point, the mechanics reveal that Jake Richmond is guilty of a crime. Sarah's blackmail being the last crime left, he is guilty of that.]
Leon shows up at the morgue, and confronts Jake about blackmailing his own sister - falsely in the name of Éric Lapointe - and also mentions the fact that he had been sleeping with Christina and Carolina. A short fight ensues, where a very pissed Chatty Lucy yells at Jake for cheating on her. Eventually, the fight ends with Lucy rushing at Jake and wounding him very seriously.
Leon says "I sure hope you know how to fake a suicide, Lucy," and walks out.
Fin.
