Here's a rework of a previous pairing, this time as hero/arch-nemesis instead of villian/sidekick.
Paradox and The Bolt by Phantasm74 A near death experience causes a villain to re-evaluate his past. Can he go back in time and stop his younger self from following a life of crime and causing a cataclysm that will one day ravage half the world? Paradox and The Bolt The Bolt, AKA Jack Wells, was a speed junkie. Not the narcotic, but the sensation of zipping down a stretch of road at 100mph on a bike, or street racing in a suped up Civic. He lived to go fast. Fortunately he lived through a lot of crashes too. It's hard to say if a crash caused this to happen, if it was a natural progression of his love for speed, a chemical leak from a car accident, or if the tooth fairy and mother goose got together and gave him these powers in his sleep, but this boy could really move all of a sudden. He could outrun any car on the market, completely on foot. Jack saw potential in this. Being from the wrong side of the tracks where racing for money was his only way to make enough to feed himself, he quickly turned his new gift into a lucrative career in crime. Bank jobs were nothing, stealing lab equipment to ransom it back to the owners, pick pocketing, all of it was just another day at the office. Police and newspapers started calling this guy "The Bolt" because of the way he struck, just like lightning, and then was gone a second later. All you ever caught was a flash and then nothing. Jack used the name and got a few costumes made up for himself with some of his money. Everything was going fine until he saw him. An old man version of himself. This guy looked like him, talked like him, and knew things about him. He even moved fast like Jack, but not quite as fast. The old man tried to stop Jack at every turn, using some kind of power over time to slow him down and catch up. The guy seemed like he knew where Jack would be before he got there and kept interfering with his work. This man has got to go down. Ranks in Equipment are for an apartment, motorcycle, and accessories. ![]() Paradox, AKA Jack Wells, has come back from the future to put an end to his own wicked past. Jack suffered a heart attack several years after realizing that his powers were not merely superspeed, but the ability to control time itself. He developed several interesting abilities, not the least of which was stopping his aging so he could live forever. Paradox, as he calls himself now, has come back to stop himself. You see, he was responsible for the great cataclysm of 2014 which destroyed half of the known world and turned Europe and parts of Africa and Russia into a wasteland, killing millions. Jack was fast enough to get away, but the guilt from that forced him into retirement and he never forgave himself. After gaining some new control over his powers, he stopped the aging process, but not before he has lost a good deal of his physical prowess that he had as a youngster. He still had millions of dollars from his days as a super villain, so he lived comfortably with the guilt for many years until the heart attack. The doctors said it was stress related. What stress could a multi millionaire have? The most stress he is under is when he's down 2 shots on the golf course. Jack knew, and felt it was time to put an end to it. He spent days trying, making little progress, but finally was able to move his body back in time a little. After a few months, he found the ability to travel backward in time. He can move back to his present time, but can't go into his own future. The past is where he will make his difference. If he can stop "The Bolt" before he destroys half the world, then he will, even if it means that he has to die (which in turn may kill Paradox as well). It may or may not change his time line, but at least he will know that he has done some good for this world in some time stream instead of always being the cause of suffering and death. Ranks in Equipment are for accessories/weapons brought back from the future. Device is his Personal Utility Clothing jacket (PUC), which has the following powers. - Comprehend Languages rank 1 (understand any language) - Environmental Control ---Raise temperature and lower temperature (climate controlled clothes) - Dimensional Pocket rank 3 (can carry 500 lbs of stuff)

Thanatos and Gentle Fist
by DragonEater One of a pair of twins manifests deadly powers which kill their mother. That twin gets imprisoned for years before finally escaping. The other twin, who was unknowingly trained by a retired super-hero, goes to face him only to find that he had been completely forgotten. Will he be able to save the world from his brother and ultimately save his brother from himself? That was what me and my twin brother Faust always thought. Children cry a lot at night and cling to their parents. We did that like any normal children, however we didn’t get to spend a lot of time with our mother. She was constantly unhealthy and had to spend lots of time in the hospital. As we got older our mother got sicker and sicker, but we made up for it by playing together. We liked the same games and we got along well together. Fate if very cruel. What child should bear the burden of killing his parents? Our mother had been released from the hospital after having spent several weeks there. When she arrived home me and Faust went to greet her, however she broke out into bloody coughs almost as soon as she set down her bag to greet us. Faust began crying and reached out and grabbed out mother, trying to comfort her. Our mother’s cough grew worse and she collapsed on the ground. I don’t remember what I was doing, but I believe I was crying with Faust. Faust’s crying grew louder as our mother breathed her last breaths in his arms... I was probably better that she died never knowing the truth. Was our mother’s death the catalyst, or if we just never noticed anything until then? As children we didn’t realize the full extent of what death was so we rushed out of our home trying to get help for our mother... It was a nightmare, I have never again seen that many people die. People on the street fell over for no reason, the couple from next door broke into spasms before collapsing like our mother did. I.. I.. don’t remember much after that. From what I have been told they used sleeping gas to subdue and capture us. When I woke up my brother was gone. I was in the care of the police, they said the Paranormal Containment Unit (PCU) had brought me here. However even after crying and begging I was never able to find out what happened to my brother from them, however I had begun to figure out the truth myself. I was told nothing and with no family I was shunted into a foster family. I suppose I was lucky, though now I know luck had nothing to do with it. My foster father was an elderly martial artist who happened to be childless. He was intent on making me his apprentice and teaching me everything he knew. I’m thankful for his training but, now that I know the truth, I question his real motives. What I didn’t know then was that my ‘foster father’ was a retired super-hero who had been assigned to guard and watch me incase I exhibited the same symptoms as my brother. As you probably have guessed, my brother had strange powers. He could kill people with just a gesture and those around him slowly died. Those who tried to stop him found their bodies dying for impossible reasons. It seemed that I was the only one immune his his powers. I know this because when I was seventeen I learned the truth. My dear brother, who had for all this time been held in the PCU’s containment facility, escaped. I can’t image what it must have been like for him to be trapped there all those years. It was surprising when I saw the report on the television. I saw my brother standing, surrounded by a pile of bodies, laughing. I instantly knew it was him. No matter what, I would always recognize him. I was almost out then door when my foster father stopped me. “What are you going to do?” I remember him saying. At the time I never wondered why his asked that question instead of where I was going. “I’m going to stop my brother.” Even I was surprised by my words. Until that moment I hadn’t thought of what I was about to do, but after that moment it was clear to me. “I had hoped you would have more time, but I guess it will have to be now. Come with me.” Even more surprised I followed him into his study where he opened a secret compartment and revealed a costume. “This was once mine, I’m giving it to you. Do name of the ‘Gentle Fist’ honor.” I really didn’t understand, but I put on the costume and left. I thought I knew what to do when I meet my brother, but I was stunned when he wasn’t able to recognize me even through the costume. While I was able to defeat him, he managed to escape. Maybe my heart wavered for a moment, I didn’t want to hurt my brother no matter what sort of person he had become. I’m sure my foster father is ashamed of me, even now I don’t think I have lived up to his expectations. But, that doesn’t matter to me, my brother is still out there. The only thing I can do is save him from himself. When I face other villains I see a part of my brother in all of them. All of them were once precious to someone, maybe they had a loving mother, father, sister, or brother. So even if I’m now strong enough, even if I fail, I want to save them too. Then, maybe, I will be able to save my brother.

Mega-Man and Ishtar
by PMikey & Midnight Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! This has never been truer than the tragic tale of Marcy Mayheux whose obsessive love for the hero Mega-Man transformed her into the villainess known as Ishtar; Goddess of Love and War. A woman always torn between her inner conflict between her love and her hate for the one man she cannot have. The character of Ishtar created by Erik Menard, AKA Midnight! The character of Mega-Man created by PMikey ![]() Mega-Man. Hero. Champion. A man amongst men. Thick as a brick. Totally oblivious. ![]() If Mega-Man had been a little more perceptive, he might have acknowledged Marcy Mayheux’s unhealthy fixation on him and dealt with the situation before things got out of hand. Unfortunately, he didn’t and the world has paid the price. Mega-Man was an operative of the United Nations International Task-force – Metahuman division (or UNIT-M for short). Operating out of the New York office, Mega-Man had daily dealings with Jeffrey Roberts, directory of the UNIT-M New York office. He also had dealings with Jeffrey Roberts’ secretary, Marcy Mayheux. While his team-mates snickered behind his back at Marcy’s obvious infatuation, Mega-Man remained woefully unaware and greeted Marcy’s fawning behaviour with an ever-proper professional conduct and stoic indifference. After months of being ignored by Mega-Man, Marcy took matters into her own hands. Realizing that she needed to be worthy of this great hero’s attention, Marcy began using UNIT-M’s files to find a way to turn herself into the ultimate woman, irresistible to men…or at least one man in particular. Researching UNIT-M’s most obscure files and abusing Jeffrey Roberts’ authority to divert resources and manpower to her quest, Marcy finally came across ancient Babylonian rites and rituals that would grant the person performing the rite the powers of a God. Appropriating a UNIT-M facility in Nevada, Marcy began making preparations for the ritual, including forming her own ad-hoc coven of cultists; promising them all the chance to become as unto gods. When UNIT-M computer technician Erik Menard detected Marcy’s illicit computer activities and attempted to expose her plot, he was chosen as the required blood sacrifice to sanctify the rite. Investigating Mr. Menard’s disappearance, UNIT-M uncovered Marcy’s plan and sped off to the Nevada desert to rescue Erik and foil Marcy’s plan. They arrived just moments too late, just in time to see Marcy plunge the ceremonial dagger into Erik’s chest. In a burst of eldritch flame, both Marcy and Erik were consumed and transformed into beings completely different from what they once were. Marcy achieved her goal and was granted the powers of a god, becoming the earthly avatar of the Goddess Ishtar; Babylonian goddess of Love, Procreation and War. Possessing great physical beauty and might, she now considered herself a worthy mate for Mega-Man. ![]() Although her body might be worthy of Mega-Man, her tarnished soul was not. Horrified at what she had done, Mega-Man spurned her advances. Scorned and outraged, Marcy became consumed with battle-lust and almost single-handedly destroying the UNIT-M team before being tricked by Mega-Man who used her own obsession with him to lure her into a trap. With their leader fallen, the neo-cultists were easily captured and Erik Menard was brought back to UNIT-M for treatment. Whereas Marcy had attained beauty and superhuman physicality, Erik was not so lucky. His flesh consumed by mystic flame, Erik became the nigh-indestructible Ghoul, a being that needs to feed on the life-force of others in order to survive. With time, treatment and training, Erik learned to live with his affliction and became a vital part of the UNIT-M team. Marcy’s obsessive love/hate for Mega-Man, however, only grew with time. With the authorities unaware of her abilities over the weak minds of men, Marcy easily escaped custody and assuming the costumed guise of Ishtar, setting about to create war, chaos and destruction wherever she goes; always attempting to draw Mega-Man out to face her. Always torn between her inner conflict between her love and her hate for the one man she cannot have. ![]() Click on character sheets for PDF downloads

The Grey Ghost and The Kannibale
by Jackpot Legacy to a 1940's Mystery Man faces off against the first Ubermensch of The Third Reich. Can skill and training face off against the deadly powers the The Reich's most lethal killing machine? For some men, the war will never be over. The Grey Ghost and The Kannibale ![]() Have you ever watched a shadow? Seen the way they move and breathe with their lifeless forms? To watch a shadow is to understand the darkness around you but what happens when you stare to long? I have seen the shadows and what they hide. I have seen the deepest darkness in the shadows of fellow man, shadows that lie in the farthest depths of inhumanity. A story must always start at the beginning. It is only a matter of what is considered the beginning. What if you have two lives do you start at the end of one and the beginning of the other or start at the very beginning of your first life? I shall start though in the middle of one life just before my death and rebirth. My name is Lucian Hall. This is where my story begins. I was a reporter for the Vanguard Voice in Vanguard City, that shining pinnacle on the east coast where the sun seems to greet it personally for I can never remember a morning where the clouds didn't move out of the way. It changes though as the sun sets the city is as dark as any I've ever known, for that is when the true evils slink in the shadows. Those are the streets I worked following the story of one mob hit to another, and crack houses in between. I dug deeper and harder then anyone had before me I was warned, I was threatened, and I was killed because of it. In the shadows I watched as the men met with a new player in town, a person I had tracked for five weeks and there he was only one hundred feet from where I hid watching, listening, and staying in the shadows wrapped in their safety. A safety that would not last and a darkness that would haunt me for months even years afterward. As I crouched there working my camera I thought and I tried to remember who the man was this new player in town so familiar though I could not place him. His lithe frame like that of a swimmer draped in a perfectly fitted darkened crimson suit. The morbid smile oh how I would shiver when I saw it, even in my dreams, his lips cut away and mouth cut open into a permanent smile. His teeth the color of pearls, filed sharp, I remembered then how I had heard stories of him eating "select" parts of his victims after he killed them. I had to look away from those eyes the dark crystalline blue of the deep sea, no pupil, no white, just blue, set into the alabaster of his skin seemingly as thin as rice paper. His hair long and perfectly thin platinum at the tips turning clear at his scalp. The way he moved, every motion fluid and precise like an animal stalking and ever hungry. I was so focused on him I never saw the man in front of him until that hand came up faster then I could follow those bony fingers so long and frail looking ending in a sharp curved talons. Nothing but crimsoned blood then, the man fell to the floor limp, nothing more then a husk. He licked his fingers cleaning them with a pointed tongue, the Kannibale was here and he was alive but how? Then I was certain the one thing every school child could recognize he turned thrusting a hand in the air he saluted his soldiers. “No!?” It cant be the Third Reich was gone it was over and the Kannibale was dead, he died with the Grey Ghost just days before the war ended. It was then that the shadows wrapped me into them held me within them and I new the darkness that I was falling into was nothing compared to the darkness of the Kannibale in what he pretends is a soul. All I could do was shiver. I couldn't feel my arms as I hung by my wrists, hanging in the dark. My toes barely touched the smooth tile of the floor, dressed as I was when I came into this world. Ice water dripped over my body dragging away the heat of my body, heart, and soul. I hung my head for it hurt to much to try and look up but I could tell he was there. He watched me hang there suffering and he enjoyed every minute of it, I couldn’t see him but I still knew. His voice came in a rasp like a branch sliding over a rusty window screen. “Mien friend it is not nice to spy on other’s, now who is it that you work for hmmmm?” I tried to speak to tell him what I thought. But my throat tightened on me and wouldn’t relinquish the words I knew rested there. I finally though managed to lift my head to look upon the monster. He smiled at me nothing more then that horrible shark like smile that would come to haunt me in both waking and sleeping hours. It was a grateful moment when I finally passed out from the pain as he slowly shredded my chest his talon fingers. All I really know is somehow I managed to never even scream. I’m not sure how long I bled there. After a while the pain went away turning into nothing but numbness. I died that night held by my wrist numb from the cold and pain, I died and I was reborn because of him. He was supposed to be dead killed in the same explosion that supposedly had taken the life of the Kannibale. The Grey Ghost still lived but now he was an old man and would be no match for his un-aged foe. He took me to his home, nursed me back to health and somehow managed to keep my stories going into the office as I “worked” from, his, home. He told me the stories of why he chose to don goggles and cape so many years ago. I saw in him the desire and drive to make a difference, his spirit was wiling but his body could no longer comply. He would teach me and I would learn. I would take up his mantle and bring the fear he used to instill back to the streets. I am THE GREY GHOST!!!!!!!! Decent grades did alright when he tried for a date but in most ways wasn’t anything special. He was unbelievably stubborn, pig headed, and dead set when he made up his mind to do something. Most often though it came about when he was trying to find something out which was an invaluable gift when he became a reporter. He always took the hardest stories and the most dangerous assignments but he always got the story. It was his biggest story that changed his life. A new power was taking over the city underworld and he was ruthless, meticulous, and worst of all he was smart. The story was there though and he would find it. In the end he did find it and it cost him his life. Something happened though and he didn’t stay down. Two days later he was found by Byron Hale the first and only Grey Ghost. Byron nursed him back to health telling him only the stories he knew and why he did what he did. As Lucian grew stronger and healed Byron started to teach him what it was to be a hero, mentally and physically. He trained harder and harder never giving into pain or exhaustion. Over a year would pass but finally he would take to the streets as the Grey Ghost. The small timers and the bigger fish in the criminal underworld all learned to fear him. The Kannibale though has always been the one he wants, for several years now he has fought a cat and mouse game with The Kannibale, stopping his schemes and putting him into jail on several occasions but he always managed to escape to come back again. His shadow has become well known to those who would fear him. No one is quite sure when or how he came to be but at certain point the questions don’t matter just the results. He was one who always got results. Leading the most dangerous missions and securing the most important information he never failed, at first. Then came the Grey Ghost an American Legend someone who wasn’t supposed to exist and he came to fight. For the last three years of the War at every turn and every time The Kannibale got an advantage The Ghost was there to stop him. It was a couple days before the end of the war The Kannibale was entrusted with one final desperate mission. A group of SS operatives under the command of The Kannibale made it into London with one of the Nazi’s first atomic bombs. The Ghost managed to show up and stop it but there was another explosion that was thought to have claimed them both. Kannibale managed to survive though but with the fall of Germany he was on his own for the first time. It was not long though before he started to gain a following again, it was easy to convince people of he “knew” was true. Over the years he has gained power and followers but always remained hidden in the shadows working at a distance. In the years since his influence has grown and so has his new 4th Reich. He has gathered those who know his plans and choose to help him as well as the fanatics that follow him religiously. Including his chief lieutenant, a minor speedster, known only as Blitzkrieg. He worked hard in school to make sure he had top marks, this was mostly through bullying others to do his homework and let him cheat on tests. After all his father beat him if he didn't get top marks he might as well beat his grades out of others. Slowly he started to understand and realize that "they" were the ones that kept him from being able to succeed. He couldn't be good enough because "they" were in the way. Soon he founds others like him they called themselves The Children of the Cross, a small growing neo nazi group. He didn't know it yet but The Kannibale was the one who pulled the strings. At one of their "demonstrations" as they set fire to a Synagogue the Grey Ghost showed up and subdued the few who chose not to run from him. Johnny was one of those few as he threw a brick at the back of the Ghost, is simply bounced from his shoulder as he turned and came after Johnny. Johnanthan turned to run hoping he would escape and with each step he moved faster and faster quickly outpacing the Ghost. It was this moment that brought him to the attention of the Kannibale. The Lurker
By Phantasm74 An ancient being, millenia old, that was once worshipped by primitive civilizations was lying dormant in the depths of the ocean when a submarine disturbed its rest and was destroyed. The radioactive core of the sub changed the huge monster and made it even more destructive than before. Now it is awake and mankind should tremble in fear of the being they call 'The Lurker'. 425 AD: Somewhere in the South Pacific. The tribesmen watched as the high priest raised the ceremonial knife into the air above the girl's chest. He had finished the summoning ritual and now prepares for the sacrifice. As the knife came down the tribesmen winced as her heart was pierced and she wailed in pain, her blood spurting out to cover the altar. After her death, the blood drained through grooves carved into the stone and dropped upon an idol made of what looked like limestone. It was carved in the shape of a fish-like monster that had two legs and arms like a man and a grinning maw of jagged teeth. The blood stained the white stone red as it poured over the carving. The ground started shaking and the high priest looked to the horizon, searching for their god. several minutes went by when out of the ocean sprang a huge monstrous fishman, looking very much like the statue that had received their offering. This fish deity took the girl's body and devoured it. Pleased with his offering, he swam off into the deep once again. 439 AD: Same Island. The ceremony goes the same as it had the years before. The high priest raised his knife in preparation for the sacrifice but a blowgun dart hit his neck. He staggered and fell, the girl writhing on the altar in her bonds, still alive. Confusion took hold and his followers scrambled, searching for the assassin. A young boy hid in the bushes, his weapon still in his hand. He had saved his sister's life, but he knew not at what cost. The ground rumbled as it always did this time of year and their god arose from the depths of the ocean to receive his sacrifice. He was enraged by the fact that the priest had not fulfilled his duty and ran amuck on the island, trampling and devouring villagers, destroying huts, and laying waste to the jungle. The boy and his sister realized what they had done and fled to the ocean. Almost as an afterthought, the boy ran back to grab the limestone idol. They swam away, but never made it to dry land. Something within the ocean swallowed them up as the idol sank to the depths from whence it came. 1922 AD: New York City, NY. An auction house sold the recently acquired status of the fish god for several thousand dollars to a collector of rare artifacts. This statue was rumored to be in the New England town of Innsmouth, presumably in a church of some sorts. No one has seen it in recent years so there is no way to know for sure. 1944 AD: Washington, DC. As part of the government's plans to help win the war, a scientist is tasked with investigating reports from south east Asia of a large monster that lives in the ocean. The government wanted to control this creature to help with the attacks on Japan. The researcher, Dr. Dewey Sinclair, disappeared on an expedition to New York to investigate a strange statue linked to this creature. 1986 AD: Pacific Ocean off the western coast of South America. A nuclear submarine test inexplicably ended when the sub seemed to vanish off of radar. Sonar picked up a massive explosion. The last transmission was a fevered cry that said something about huge, black eyes looking back at them. The reactor soon went critical and the sub exploded in the ocean. Unbeknownst to anyone, the fish-like creature at the bottom of the sea was there. He crushed the sub after it disturbed his sleep, and absorbed a large amount of the radioactive energy. This did not kill the being due to its regenerative capability. Instead, he was changed and found that he could channel energy into a destructive blast from his dark, malevolent eyes. Having awoken from a two hundred year slumber, he went off in search of food. 1997 AD: Somewhere around 50º S 100º W US Navy equipment picks up a strange sound described as "matching the audio profile of a living creature, but not any creature known to science." This "bloop" as it is called was heard on equipment designed to detect Soviet subs during the cold war and could be deteced up to 5000km away. Whatever made the noise was massive and had never been seen by any living person. More information can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop Present day: Vanguard City, Va. A strange rumbling has been felt recently. This is assumed to be earthquakes, but the real cause remains to be seen. Could it be the enormous fish creature that so long ago was worshipped by all who laid eyes upon it? ------------------------------------------------------- The Lurker is going to be able to tear apart a city with his bare hands from the start. He will need to start near water as he originates there. He can travel over land though, but that exposes him and makes him slower (his swim speed is much faster than his walking speed). He does wound easily from stronger physical blows (he is impervious to lighter attacks), but can retreat and regenerate if necessary. Energy attacks, excluding cold, are absorbed and channeled into his radioactive blast from his eyes. Cold attacks instead do double damage to him. He will drain energy sources so if you get him near power lines he may grab them to charge his blast power for a massive attack. The blast itself takes a full action so he has to remain stationary to shoot it, and it must be used at full power, including any boost from the absorption power up to the PL limit. It is not very destructive in it's initial state, but when he has stored up power to pump into it he has the power to level a city with a full powered blast. GM should add points to the rank as well as increase the burst area of the blast since there will likely be stored energy to burn and this attack should be as destructive as possible.

The Rat That Ate Vanguard City
By Phantasm74 A genetically altered rat that grew to immense size and escaped confinement in the university laboratory. Not only did he grow to an immense size, but so did his fleas, which defend him like he is their home, because he is. He is followed by a cloud of stinking gas that nauseates most people who come into contact with it and causes them to become physically ill. That combined with his army of fleas makes him a dangerous creature that destroys every city in his way. Every city's got them. Disease carrying scavengers, living off of human scraps, congregating in the sewers. They carried the black plague, they're filthy, women see them and jump up on tables squealing. Rats. Part of a science experiment gone awry, this particular rat was a product of a science student's project at Steel City University in Pennsylvania. He was being experimented on for an array of new drugs, some of which actually worked. He was almost killed by several of them, but the lab rat wasn't remarkable in any way... that is until gene therapy was started for a cancer drug. The rat's DNA was altered to allow several "cures" to take effect on his body. No one is sure if the gene therapy itself was to blame, the near lethal cocktail of other drugs in his system, or the new gene drugs, but the rat changed and got smarter. From that point on, he noticed that he felt stronger each time he was injected with the gene therapy drugs. The drugs seemed to do ok as far as the students were concerned, but the rat knew differently, they made him better. Then the accident happened. The rat cage was tipped over by a student and all of the rats got out. This super rat scurried up to a counter top and across the table to a vat of chemicals. He leapt in, unnoticed by the frantic students and lab assistants who were trying to round up all of the animals. The chemical bath was mostly made of the gene drugs and it reacted with his already altered body and he grew rapidly to an immense size, getting stronger and stronger. The lab and most of the building were destroyed as the monstrous animal grew and grew. He ran off after the growth stopped and headed out of town. Since his DNA was changed, the fleas he picked up were also changed. The dip in the chemicals grew them to a massive size as well. They fed off of his enhanced blood and grew strong. They still live in the rat's fur for protection and protect him like he was their home. The rat caused a swath of destruction out of Steel City to the South. He is heading to warmer climates and straight toward Vanguard City. ![]() ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The rat is constantly surrounded by a cloud of noxious gas (stench) that comes from wallowing in human filth all day. It causes a nauseate attack against anyone inside of it except the rat and his fleas. The fleas are not terribly powerful, but there are a lot of them. They can overpower an opponent by shear numbers and move by jumping large distances. FLEAS

The Great Devourer
By Phantasm74 A destructive force feared throughout the galaxy, he has had several names but is usually known as The Great Devourer. Born out of a cosmic explosion that destroyed his homeworld, he literally eats planets, buildings, and people alike as he travels the universe seeking to satiate his constant hunger. The being known as The Great Devourer was once a simple worker named Aquilla. His homeworld was orbitted by many small moons that were terraformed to grow the planet's food. Aquilla maintained one of the reactors that powered one such moon. A burst of intense cosmic radiation swept through the solar system and obliterated his homeworld. The process liquified the planet and sent hot jets of molten rock into space, striking most of the moons and destroying them. Aquilla never saw this coming since he had been on the opposite side of the moon when the jet of liquid hot rock struck. The bolt didn't bore entirely through the moon, but the radiation was enough to nearly kill him. The terraforming dome came crashing down around him, knocking him unconscious. He awoke, floating in space, surrounded by all manner of floating material. Most of it was either rock or parts of machinery that had broken off during the blast. Aquilla gained his bearings and soon realized that he was floating in the vacuum of space but was unharmed. He didn't even feel the need to breathe any longer. Looking down at his hands, they had turned to a green, rocky hide (as did his entire outer layer of skin). He also saw in his reflection in a passing mirror that his body had changed, morphed into some sort of humanoid rock-like creature. He soon felt a strange hunger and salvaged what edible material he could from the floating debris. Once that was exhausted, he consumed some dirt and rocks and found that nothing could satiate him, but everything was edible. He gobbled down what was left of the planet, getting stronger after injesting more and more of the radiated material. Aquilla quickly found that he could fly at near light speeds and quickly sped off to the nearest planet to feed. This planet was inhabited only by animals which his people had used for food at one time, and Aquilla fed on them once more until none were left. He continued to eat until the planet simply was no longer there. He has been feared and hated throughout most of the outer reaches of the galaxy since and has been deemed "The Destroyer" or "The Great Devourer" by most people just before he eats them. He has gained power and size over the centuries and seems unable to die or even be harmed. He can shape cosmic rays, he has the ability to understand beings tortured screams while they watch their planets be destroyed, and he can withstand any army's attacks. His flight is near light speed and he does not age, breathe, or need food or water, although he craves organic matter as "food" even though he would be fine without it. The hunger is so strong that he must feed constantly and can eat nearly anything in a single gulp due to the raging nuclear fire inside of his body. ![]() Matter-Eater power Effect: Drain Toughness, Immunity Range: Touch Saving Throw: none (see description) Action: Standard (active) Duration: Instant Cost: 5points + 1 per rank You have the power to eat, and safely digest, essentially anything you can fit into your mouth. This may be due to super strong acids, an internal nuclear furnace, magical powers from the Spirit of Hunger, or any other appropriate descriptors. Any non-living material you chew on loses Toughness equal to your Matter-eater rank each round. When it reaches Toughness 0 you have swallowed and destroyed it. With Matter-eater 20 you can essentially consume and digest bite-sized chunks of all but the strongest materials each round. You are completely immune to anything you swallow, including normally toxic or even radioactive or explosive materials. You can even swallow a live grenade or drink napalm without harm. You're still effected by external hazards and by agents that you breathe or enter your bloodstream, unless you acquire the appropriate immunity powers.

Admiral Gram
By Phantasm74 From his humble beginnings as a star fighter pilot to his current station as commander of the largest armada in the known galaxy, Admiral Ul-hua Gram is a ruthless conqueror with a huge inferiority complex due to his small stature. He is very charismatic and packs a powerful blaster as well as a cybernetic implant that allows him to survive almost any environment or even deep space. Ul-hua was a pilot in his younger days flying star fighters for the Imperial Navy on his home world of Betelgeuse Prime. His skills were legendary amongst new recruits and his commanding officers took note. He was teaching advanced maneuvers and gunnery at a young age and worked his way through the ranks quickly. He was always self conscious about his size, being a full foot shorter than even the smallest cadets. Ul-hua was justified in feeling so though, most people treated him badly, called him names, ignored him, and did all manner of mean things to him, especially when he was younger. That was the reason that he strived to be better than everyone else, to be the best at what he did. He was able to out-fly and out-shoot veteran pilots and was eventually given his own command. Captain Gram was feared by is enemies throughout the galaxy. His ship, the Invictus, had some of the best fighter pilots in the fleet, and the tactical genius of her Captain allowed her to survive countless skirmishes. The fear and the power became an addiction to Ul-hua Gram and he craved more. He went to great expense to get a hologram projector large enough to mimic a capital ship, but he did it. In the battle over Antares III his conspiritors on the ground fired up the hologram and everyone thought the Invictus was destroyed. In fact, the ship was still docked at a station hours away and took off in the other direction at maximum speed. Calling himself Admiral Gram, Ul-hua began rallying supporters, people who were awed by his prowess, and others that respected and/or feared his name. He turned into a space pirate for many years, amassing wealth to fund his new fleet. The force of his personality was so strong that people were easily swayed to side with him, and his military genius outmatched that of anyone in the known universe at the time. He eventually created an armada to rival the Imperial Navy and in a spectacular battle at his home system, he defeated them. Taking over the planetary government, he ruled through fear and with an iron fist. The planet became nothing more than a huge shipyard and military facility where piolts and crew were trained and ships fabricated to add to his strength. The new ruler of Betelgeuse and commander of her armies would not stop with his victory over Betelgeuse Prime. He sped across the galaxy in search of other worlds to conquer. With his huge mass of ships, most of which were independent pirates, mercenaries, smugglers, or salvaged military vessels, he has an infinite number of potential strike forces that he can customize for any battle. When Admiral Gram's ship enters the battle, his enemies fear for their lives and either run or die fighting. Throughout his career, the Admiral has obtained a cybernetic implant to allow him to survive on hostile environments which also doubles as a personal shield device and universal translator. He's also come across some interesting alien technology in his travels and carries his relic from Rigel II which is a high powered blaster capable of doing extreme damage to the strongest of materials, but small enough to fit into a pocket. The technology behind this artifact was lost millenia ago and it is one of a kind. The Chosen One
By Phantasm74 A young boy, son of circus performers, and apprentice to an aging stage magician is found to be the mystical chosen one of legend. He is sent away to train in the magical arts and to avoid having anyone find out his secret, but the boy wished to be a boy and didn't learn as much as he should have. Now, with his master dead and his secret revealed, he travels the land trying to escape attacks from much more powerful mages after the title of "The Chosen One" and the powers that go along with it. When he was a boy, Barry was part of the Sporulli Brother's traveling circus. His parents were trapeze artists and when Barry was old enough he began assisting the show's Magician, The Great Bendini. Barry learned a few magic tricks with his time helping the aging illusionist, but he mostly had to spend his time cleaning up, getting sawed in half, hiding the rabbit in the hat, and other jobs to help the show go off without a hitch. Barry wasn't very pleased with the work, and often would do a haphazard job of things so he could go off and play. One night, during Bendini's show, a strange old man walked out in the middle of the performance. Bendini went on trying to keep the crowd's attention on himself and after he finished Barry was putting the props away as he always did. The old man approached him and reached out his hand. A bolt of blue energy fired from his hand and barry threw up his hands and let out a yell. The energy blast dissipated in mid-air and the old man scowled at Barry and ran off. "That's dark magic." said a voice from behind the curtain. It was The Great Bendini, coming out to see what was happening. "What happened here, who was that man?" Barry didn't know. He wasn't sure how he survived either, the glowing streak of light just fizzled and vanished before it got to him. A few weeks later, a similar incident happened, and this time Bendini saw the whole thing. Barry was cornered between two booths by a hooded man and he saw a flash of light and again, the spell fizzled before reaching the boy. He wondered who could be sending these men after Barry, but more importantly, how did he stand against two wizards and live? Bendini revealed that he studied the dark arts himself but only dabbled in flashy tricks and easier things. He had a long talk with Barry's parents and they agreed that, for Barry's safety, he would be sent to the man who taught Bendini. Barry was shipped off to Romania to study with an old man. He looked far too old to even be alive, but Barry found that his exterior hid a powerful mage, capable of wielding large amounts of power, summoning forth creatures and demons, and apparently prolonging his own life. The man was named Master Yung and he recognized the boy's potential. Barry, however, was no more pleased with his new situation than his old one and never seriously studied. He learned several useful things, but he lacked focus and never excelled at any specific facet of magic. He was busy goofing off with the local children and playing pranks on people. That was until Master Yung noticed the birthmark on his back. Barry had never though anything of it, but after being caught eavesdropping on someone while using his Invisibility spell, Barry was grabbed by the back of the shirt and the master saw the mark of The Chosen One. The legend has it that the chosen one will tip the scales in the cosmic war against good and evil once he reaches his full power. His path is his own to decide, however, and if any man can kill the chosen one with magic, he will become the chosen one. Master Yung then knew how the boy had survived his attackers' spells. The chosen one has a natural immunity to magical attacks. This makes killing him with magic virtually impossible and the chosen one has died of old age countless times, only to be reincarnated into another person each time that he or she doesn't reach their full potential before death. So far, no one person has ever achieved their potential. Master Yung sought out to correct that by training the boy, but word got out and soon other students were angered that the master would keep this from them and one student, the best mage student at the school, Adriana, led a small group of students in revolt and killed the master and nearly killed Barry before he fled. Now back in America, Barry is visited constantly by the disembodied voice of his former master and is determined to avenge Master Yung and unlock his potential, if only to get the spirit to leave him alone. He faces constant attack from other mages and their minions trying to claim the title of Chosen One.

B.O.B
By Phantasm74 Robotic helper, designed by Rosie from the Unknown Soldiers group. BOB was built from scrap and over the years has been upgraded and improved. His current form serves as an assistant, fabricator, repairman, and test subject for the group's inventor, Rosie the Riveter. B.O.B., Built On a Budget, is Rosie's faithful robot helper. He originally was a junk pile, built from scraps around the workshop. Rosie has since upgraded him into the machine he is today, but the name stuck. While he doesn't see actual combat often, BOB does do the heavy lifting in the workshop and can fabricate most projects while Rosie is away with the rest of the team. The Unknown Soldiers rely on him more than they know, although they rarely show it. BOB's sole purpose is helping the team as a mechanic and fabricator while Rosie designs the actual weapons and vehicles. He also doubles as a crash test dummy, tester of experimental weaponry, and for a short while after a failed weaponry test, his head was a very good paperweight.
