The Lord God Made them All by James Herriot
This is the fourth of the five volumes of veterinary stories written by Herriot, and I think it's a slight return to form. He still uses a narrative frame, but unlike the RAF theme used in the third volume, this one is more interesting and seamlessly integrated. Herriot's typical stories are punctuated by a travelogue of his two international trips, one to Russia and one to Constantinople. I am reading the fifth volume right now, which is great and totally discards the narrative frame. It feels like that contrivance was something either Herriot forced on himself or perhaps his editor did.
