Default [Dark Sun / Savage Worlds] In Freedom's Name!

Cha, Feera, Katid, Tomak, and Astara are back!

With the Veiled Alliance still in hiding and part of Stravos' troops now under their orders, our five unlikely heroes spent the last year wandering the desert under the guise of a slave tribe. When they are contacted again by the Veiled Alliance, however, they find that they must rise to the challenge once more.

Rumors say that in a mansion deep within the city-state of Gulg, the slaver Lorelei collects magical artifacts and conducts gruesome experiments on slaves. Even more crucial, however, is the rumor that Lorelei owns an artifact thousand of years old called the Heartwood Spear... the only weapon on Athas that can kill a Sorcerer-King.

Now, with the help of their new army, the heroes of Sacrifices of War must storm the city-state of Gulg, and steal this powerful weapon... in freedom's name!

In loving memory of K'kriq.

I realize the odds that I will be in town for this one are slim, but I'm ecstatic anyway.

Actually, Doc, I was kinda half-planning to wait for you!

I mean, it's not like it's the only gaming venue I have or anything. If you have rough plans about coming back within the next 6-7 months or so, now would be a good time to say it. 'Cause if that's the case, I'm perfectly willing to wait and entertain myself with other stuff meanwhile.

Cool! Count me in. I'll wait for Doc too. '08 will be much better for me anyhow. So K'kirq really is dead?

Meta-tidbits of player empowerment...
  • K'Kriq is dead in the second scenario because he died in the first.
  • The backstory of Lorelei experimenting on slaves is actually something Walkerp came up with, IC as Feera, to encourage the slaves to revolt and escape. I decided that Feera wasn't lying through her teeth after all, and had said this based on a rumor she had in fact heard.
  • The basic set-up of In Freedom's Name is also a direct result of Feera's actions. Walkerp decided to try and convince the troops of the original bad guy to join them, and scored a killer roll. A reset would've felt cheap, somehow. Hence, we start out with troops.
Meta-tidbits of metaplot...
  • In the Prism Pentad novels, Kalak - the Sorcerer-King of Tyr - is indeed killed with the Heartwood Spear.
  • This said, I'm straying away from the novels a bit, since what will unravel in In Freedom's Name is not how the Veiled Alliance got the Heartwood Spear.

Yeah! Wait for me if you can. My plan is to get to Montreal for Royal Con if the dates work out, and I will be watching for any opportunity that's work-related to get there before or after, for sure. I have presentations lining up for Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. The PA one might be easily stretched into a two or three day jaunt up north.

If need be, we have futons (and Jeremy's bed when he's with his dad). You'd be more than welcome if you wanna crash over here and save some cash.

Noted, but I still want to run a re-run of Sacrifices of War - so you can get your Dark Sun / Savage Worlds kicks with the original scenario first. I haven't tried to schedule it yet, because I know you want to play in it and I wanna let Talleyrand manage to schedule his Nobilis one-shot before filling any more of your precious time-slots.

This said, the first game of Sacrifices of War will remain as canon for In Freedom's Name.

First "wants" list for In Freedom's Name...

Here's a few things I want the scenario to feature, off the top of my head.
  • I want an elf (of the athasian kind, not the wuss kind) to replace the sixth spot left open by the death of K'kriq.
  • I want to use Savage World's mechanics for large scale battles.
  • I want a good part of the scenario to take place in a dungeon, featuring puzzles and traps and all that shit. You know, old school dungeon-crawling, with flavor cranked up to eleven.
  • I want to use downhilling as a scenario structure again.
  • I want crazy minis, like in the last one.
